Aaron Robinson drove in three runs to lead the 1948 Chicago White Sox to a 4-1 victory over the 1962 New York Mets in the championship contest of the 100-Loss Tournament.
With the scored tied at 1-1 in the top of the sixth, Robinson had a RBI double off New York starter Roger Craig to give the White Sox the lead.
In the eighth, Robinson slammed a two-run homer off Craig to end the day for the Mets hurler. Bob Moorhead tossed a perfect eighth and Bob Miller added a scoreless ninth for New York.
The Mets had two runners on base in the ninth when Randy Gumpert ran out of gas allowing Howie Judson to take over on the mound. He induced Charlie Neal to hit into a double play and then fanned Elio Chacon to clinch the title.
Gumpert (2-0) got the win for the White Sox as he gave up eight hits with four strikeouts before Judson earned the save by recording the last three outs.
Craig (1-1) worked seven frames as he surrendered 11 hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts to get the loss.
Both teams scored runs in the third inning. Pat Seerey had a RBI ground out for the White Sox, while Felix Mantilla smacked a run-scoring double for New York to tie it at 1-1.
