Editor’s note: The 1948 Tournament games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available. The first and second round series will be the best two of three games. The semifinals are best of five, while the championship series is the best of seven.
The Philadelphia Phillies are headed to the championship series of the 1948 Tournament after a 2-0 victory over the Boston Braves at Shibe Park.
With the win in the fourth game, the Phillies took three straight to claim the best of five semifinal series.
Philadelphia will face the winner of the semifinal series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals currently lead the series two game to one.
Robin Roberts (2-1) gave up just four hits as he blanked the Braves with seven strikeouts. Eddie Stanky, who had two hits, singled to lead off the fourth after Roberts had tossed three perfect frames.
Braves starter Warren Spahn (2-1) allowed six hits and did surrender a run until Harry Walker‘s RBI ground out in the sixth.
In the eighth, Walker drove in the Philadelphia final tally with a run-scoring single.
Andy Seminick led the Phillies with two hits.
