Roy Campanella drove in three runs to lead the Brooklyn Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 1951 Tournament.
The Dodgers are scheduled to entertain the Boston Braves in the semifinals.
After Jackie Robinson walked and stole second, Campanella drilled a two-run homer off Cincinnati starter Ken Raffensberger and the Dodgers led 2-0.
The score remained the same until the sixth when both teams added their final runs of the affair.
For Cincinnati, Bobby Adams tripled and scored in a double by Connie Ryan to make it 2-1.
Campanella’s RBI double in the bottom of the frame pushed Brooklyn’s margin back to two runs. Andy Pafko smacked a single to bring home Campanella as the Dodgers added to their advantage.
Preacher Roe (1-0) went the distance on the mound for the Dodgers as he allowed six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Raffensberger (0-1) worked six innings giving all of the Brooklyn runs on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. Frank Smith finished with two frames up for Cincinnati with a strikeout.
