The Baltimore Orioles responded after falling behind to bounce back for a 9-3 victory over the Milwaukee Braves at County Stadium.

With two runs in the top of the third, the Orioles grabbed a 2-0 advantage that didn’t last long.

Gus Triandos drove in the first run of the frame with a single, while the Orioles added another score with Jim Dyck coming home as Bob Hale grounded into a double play.

The Braves quickly answered in the bottom of the third against Baltimore starter Jim Wilson, who would go on to throw a complete game surrendering six hits with three strikeouts.

Bill Bruton doubled to drive in the first run. Two batters later, Hank Aaron‘s two-run triple put the Braves in front 3-2.

Baltimore would tie the affair with another run coming on a double play in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Orioles played long ball off Braves starter Warren Spahn, who would eventually leave the mound in the seventh.

Triandos put the Orioles on top with a solo shot and Chuck Diering would follow with a two-run blast.

Spahn would be charged with two of the three runs that the Orioles would score in the seventh.

Eddie Waitkus had a bases loaded triple off Robinson, which produced the final runs of the contest.

Next for the Orioles in the second round is a road trip to play the winner of the (6) Chicago Cubs at (3) Chicago White Sox.

1955 IN REAL LIFE: Triandos was in his third big league season when he joined the Orioles in 1955 from the New York Yankees organization. He would finish his rookie season with 12 homers and 65 RBI.

A three-time all-star, Triandos had his best year in 1958 with 30 long balls and 79 RBI. He also caught two no-hitters in his career with the first coming in 1958 with Hoyt Wilhelm on the mound. With the Philadelphia Phillies, he was behind the plate for Jim Bunning‘s perfect game in 1964.
