1955 Tournament: Reds at Red Sox

A fast start helped the Cincinnati Reds post a 7-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park.

Cincinnati starter Joe Nuxhall benefited from the early outburst by the Reds as the lefty went the distance scattering seven hits.

Roy McMillan drove in the first run for the Reds with a single in the opening frame against Boston starter Frank Sullivan.

Gus Bell followed with a two-run single that put the Reds on top 3-0. The Reds added a run when Smoky Burgess hit into a double play.

McMillan made it 5-0 with a RBI double in the second.

Ted Williams got the Red Sox on the scoreboard in the third with a sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, Sammy White hit a solo homer for the Red Sox to make it 5-2.

Both teams scored in the eighth. Johnny Temple had a two-run single for the Reds, while Jimmy Piersall had a RBI single for the Red Sox.

The Reds move on to the second round to play the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field.

1955 IN REAL LIFE: Nuxhall had a career-high win total in 1955 as he finished 17-12. He also made his first of two all-star appearances. The lefty worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings allowing two hits with five strikeouts. He fanned three American League stars in the top of the 10th to help the National League to a 6-5 victory.
