Sandy Koufax was nearly perfect in front of the hometown crowd as the 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers shutdown the 1962 San Francisco Giants 6-0 in a first round matchup in the 1960s Diamond Gems Tournament.

Koufax (1-0) struck out 13 Giants on his way to the no-hitter. Jim Davenport was the only San Francisco baserunner as he reached with a walk in the top of the fifth inning.

Conversely, it didn’t take very long to the Dodgers very to get on the scoreboard against Giants starter Jack Sanford.

Maury Wills singled to lead off the bottom of the first and the swiped second before coming home on a single by Jim Gilliam.

The Dodgers really went to work on Sanford (0-1) in the third with one out. Wills singled and stole second again before Gilliam walked.

After Willie Davis was retired, Ron Fairly single to score Wills as Gilliam moved on to third. Lou Johnson doubled and the Dodgers led 3-0.

When Sanford walked Jim Lefebvre to load the bases, San Francisco manager Al Dark summoned Bobby Bolin from the bullpen. Wes Parker coaxed a walk from the Giants reliever and it was 4-0.

Bolin was able to get out of the jam and stay on the mound until the end of the fifth. Billy Pierce would work the rest of the way for the Giants allowing two runs on two hits. Parker had a RBI triple in the eighth and then scored on a ground out by John Roseboro.
