Ruben Amaro capped a rally in the bottom of the 11th with a walk-off single as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in the second round of the 1964 Tournament.
The Phillies are set to entertain the winner of the San Francisco Giants at Cincinnati Reds in the quarterfinals.
After Cubs reliever Lindy McDaniel retired Dick Allen to begin the 11th, Wes Covington and Tony Gonzalez had back-to-back singles to set the stage for the game-winner.
McDaniel (0-1) got Clay Dalrymple on a foul ball to first before Amaro came through in the clutch to win it for the Phillies.
Philadelphia’s Jack Baldschun (1-0) tossed a scoreless top of the 11th to earn the victory in relief of starter Jim Bunning.
The Phillies got on the scoreboard against Chicago starter Dick Ellsworth in the fourth as Johnny Callison led off with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Allen.
Chicago tied the affair in the top of the ninth as Ron Santo and Ernie Banks had back-to-back doubles to produce a run off Bunning.
Bunning worked 10 innings giving up eight hits with a walk and a dozen strikeouts, while Ellsworth also threw 10 frames allowing six hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts..
