1967 Strat-O-Matic Football Tournament

After the Strat-O-Matic company started baseball in the early 1960s, football was part of the natural progression in the later in the decade. Basketball and hockey would come along during the 1970s.

For this cards and dice simulation, the 1967 six-team set of football cards released by the company will be used.

The six teams are the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Colts, Oakland Raiders and New York Jets.

In real life, the Packers, Cowboys and Rams were playoff teams from the National Football League. Oakland made the post-season in the American Football League.

The Packers beat the Rams 28-7 in the first round and then defeated the Cowboys in the game known as the Ice Bowl 21-17. Dallas beat the Cleveland Browns 52-14 to advance.

Baltimore and Los Angeles finished with identical 11-1-2 records. The Rams went to the post-season as the Coastal Division champs thanks to the tiebreaker and a 34-10 win over the Colts in the finale of the regular season. The two teams battled to a 24-24 tie earlier in the year.

This would be the season that would end with the Packers winning Super Bowl II against the Raiders 33-14. The Raiders defeated the Houston Oilers 40-7 to win the AFL crown.

The Jets finished second in the East Division, but were one year away from winning Super Bowl III with a 16-7 victory over the Colts.
