Reggie Jackson drove in a pair of runs as the Oakland A’s beat the California Angels 3-2 as the second round of the 1969 Strat-o-Matic Tournament came to a close.
With the win, the A’s contest are slated to entertain the Kansas City Royals in the finale of the American League West Bracket.
Jackson drilled a solo homer off California starter Jim McGlothlin in the bottom of the first inning giving the A’s a 1-0 advantage.
Oakland added to its margin with two more runs in the fifth as Tommie Reynolds and Jackson had back-to-back RBI doubles.
California picked up its runs against Oakland starter Blue Moon Odom in the sixth.
Jim Fregosi knocked in the first tally with a triple, while Rick Reichardt had a RBI ground our tp cut California’s deficit to a run.
Odom (1-0) went the distance for the A’s as he surrendered five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
McGlothlin worked seven innings for the Angels allowing six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Ken Tatum tossed a scoreless eighth for the Angels.
