Frank Robinson provided all of the run that Mike Cuellar would need as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Washington Senators 4-1 in the second round of the 1969 Strat-o-Matic Tournament.
With the victory, the Orioles are scheduled to entertain the winner of the Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers affair in the finale of the American League East Bracket.
Robinson capped the four-run outburst in the bottom of the third with a grand slam against Washington starter Joe Coleman.
Elrod Hendricks led off frame with a single and then Coleman retired Mark Belanger and Cuellar before he lost some control.
Don Buford and Paul Blair both walked as the Orioles loaded the bases for Robinson, who took advantage of the situation.
Cuellar (1-0) tossed a four-hitter with a walk and three strikeouts as he allowed a run in the top of the fifth.
Bernie Allen began the inning with a double and then he scored on a single by Ed Brinkman. The potenial rally came to an end when Paul Casanova hit into a double play and Coleman grounded out.
Coleman (0-1) went seven inning allowing six hits with a pair of walks and nine strikeouts.
