Doug Rader hit a walk-off single as the 1976 San Diego Padres beat the 1972 Cleveland Indians 1-0 in the second round of the 1970s Cy Young Tournament.

With the win, the Padres will travel to the winner of the 1974 Los Angeles Dodgers at 1973 New York Mets for a semifinal contest.

Willie Davis began San Diego’s rally in the bottom of the ninth with a single off Cleveland starter Gaylord Perry.

Perry retired Dave Winfield and Mike Ivie before issuing a free pass to Jerry Turner.

Rader’s single to center was deep enough to give Davis the chance to race home with the game-winning run.

San Diego starter Randy Jones (2-0) continued his dominance allowing six hits in his complete game effort with a strikeout. Jones hasn’t surrendered a run through 18 innings of the tournament, while giving up just 10 hits.

Tagged with the loss, Perry (1-1) was one out from sending the game to the 10th as he also gave up six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
