Jim Palmer tossed a complete game to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round of the 1972 Strat-o-Matic Tournament.

With the win, the Orioles advance into the second round as they travel to face the Boston Red Sox.

Palmer (1-0) allowed six hits, while walking three and striking out three.

Offensively, the Orioles picked up a run in the bottom of the third against Milwaukee starter Jim Lonborg on a RBI single by Don Buford.

Boog Powell blasted a two-run homer in the sixth off Lonborg in his final frame on the mound. Lonborg (0-1) gave up five hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts.

Baltimore’s final tally came in the seventh when Ken Brett walked Bobby Grich with the bases loaded.

Pat Dobson gets the start for the Orioles in their next contest as the Red Sox counter with Luis Tiant.
