1972 Tournament: Twins at White Sox

Editor’s note: Tournament games are played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. Three-man pitching rotations will be used for starting pitchers. Injuries are in-game only during this single elimination event.

Dick Woodson tossed a three-hitter as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago White Sox 2-1 in the second round of the 1972 Strat-o-Matic Tournament.

With the victory, the Twins are headed to Oakland to face the A’s in the third round. Jim Kaat will start for the Twins, while the A’s counter with Ken Holtzman.

Woodson (1-0), who walked one and fanned eight, allowed two of his hits in the second inning when the White Sox scored their lone run.

Ed Herrmann singled with two outs and Rich Morales followed with a triple as the White Sox led 1-0.

Minnesota scored its runs via the long ball as White Sox starter Wilbur Wood gave up a pair of solo homers.

Harmon Killebrew tied the affair in the top of the fourth with his blast. Bobby Darwin drilled his homer in the sixth as the Twins took the lead for good.

Wood (0-1) worked eight innings surrendering six hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts. Terry Forster gave up a hit as he pitched one frame.
