Editor’s note: How good were the 1975 Cincinnati Reds? The best way to end the speculation is to challenge the team with a 162-game season against some great teams. This is a series that will include each game played with the Strat-o-Matic cards and dice, while hoping to reach the 108-54 record that the Reds had that season. Game stories will be published periodically on Press Room Pass through out the year. What’s your predicted victory total?
Cincinnati rookie Pat Darcy blanked the San Diego Padres for the second time this season as the Reds posted a 3-0 victory at Riverfront Stadium.
It was also the second time Darcy (10-5) has limited the Padres to three hits. Overall, it was the fourth shutout for Darcy, who also shares a combined effort with Rawly Eastwick.
Darcy gave up singles to Dave Winfield in the first, Tito Fuentes in the fourth and Mike Ivie in the eighth. He fanned four and walked one.
The Reds got on the scoreboard in the second inning as Dave Concepcion knocked in a run with a double off Padres starter Brent Strom, who tossed eight innings allowing six hits.
Joe Morgan drove in Cincinnati’s next run with a single in the third.
George Foster‘s solo homer in the sixth was the final tally of the contest.
The Reds welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to Cincinnati for a two-game series.
In the opener, Don Gullett (17-6) looks for his fifth win of the season against the Dodgers as he’s opposed by Fernando Valenzuela.
