1975 Reds Replay 39: 1975 Expos

Editor’s note: How good were the 1975 Cincinnati Reds? The best way to end the speculation is to challenge the team with a 162-game season against some great teams. This is a series that will include each game played with the Strat-o-Matic cards and dice, while hoping to reach the 108-54 record that the Reds had that season. Game stories will be published periodically on Press Room Pass through out the year. What’s your predicted victory total?

Cincinnati rookie Pat Darcy continues to have success as he pitched eight shutout innings as he led the Reds to a 5-0 victory over Montreal in the finale of a three-game series in Jarry Park.

After dropping his first decision of the season, Darcy is now 4-1 with four wins in his last five starts. He allowed four hits with three strikeouts before leaving the mound in the ninth with two runners on base.

Despite not being in a save situation, Reds manager Sparky Anderson called on Rawly Eastwick to slam the door. Eastwick took care of the task as he fanned Gary Carter and Larry Parrish before getting Mike Jorgensen to fly out to end the contest.

The Reds grabbed an early advantage with three runs in the first inning against Expos starter Don Carrithers.

Dave Concepcion starter the scoring with a RBI single. Terry Crowley added a sacrifice fly with Bill Plummer walking with the bases loaded to make it 3-0.

A two-run homer by Dan Driessen in the ninth off reliever Dale Murray were the final runs of the contest.

Driessen led the Reds with two hits, while Larry Biittner topped the Expos with two hits.

Cincinnati returns to Riverfront Stadium with Don Gullett (4-2) scheduled to start in the opener of a two-game series against the New York Mets, who will counter with Tom Seaver.
