Editor’s note: How good were the 1975 Cincinnati Reds? The best way to end the speculation is to challenge the team with a 162-game season against some great teams. This is a series that will include each game played with the Strat-o-Matic cards and dice, while hoping to reach the 108-54 record that the Reds had that season. Game stories will be published periodically on Press Room Pass through out the year. What’s your predicted victory total?
Runs were limited as a pair of aces took the Riverfront Stadium mound for Cincinnati and Milwaukee as the Reds were able to pull out a 2-0 victory in the second contest of the three-game series.
Don Gullett (9-3) went the distance for Cincinnati scattering seven hits with four strikeouts as the Reds had their second straight complete game.
Combined with Pat Darcy, who won the opener, the two Reds pitchers have held the Braves to one run on 12 hits so far in the series.
Braves starter Warren Spahn gave up six hits in seven innings.
The Milwaukee lefty allowed a homer in the fourth to George Foster and a RBI single to Joe Morgan in the sixth for Cincinnati’s only runs.
Don McMahon walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, but he was able to get double play to end the trouble to keep the Braves close.
Pete Rose led the Reds with two hits.
Johnny Logan, Red Schoendienst and Del Crandall each had two hits.
Gary Nolan (6-4) takes the mound for the Reds in the series finale, while Lew Burdette gets the call for the Braves.
