Editor’s note: How good were the 1975 Cincinnati Reds? The best way to end the speculation is to challenge the team with a 162-game season against some great teams. This is a series that will include each game played with the Strat-o-Matic cards and dice, while hoping to reach the 108-54 record that the Reds had that season. Game stories will be published periodically on Press Room Pass through out the year. What’s your predicted victory total?
Two streaks ended as the Milwaukee Braves defeated Cincinnati Reds 2-0.
Cincinnati was looking for a fourth win in a row, while Braves starter Warren Spahn won for the first time in three tries against the Reds.
The game was also the second time Reds starter Don Gullett hooked up with Spahn. The earlier affair was a 2-0 Reds win.
With the contest scoreless until the bottom of fourth, the Braves took the lead with an unearned run.
After two outs, Hank Aaron reached on an error by Reds shortstop Dave Concepcion. Joe Adcock followed with a RBI double to make it 1-0.
In the fifth, Braves catcher Del Crandall hit a solo homer for the final tally of the affair.
Spahn tossed a complete game as he gave up five hits with four strikeouts.
Cincinnati’s Ken Griffey and Cesar Geronimo had two hits apiece with Gullett getting the other for the Reds.
Gullett (9-4) also went the distance surrendering four hits with five strikeouts in eight innings.
Johnny Logan and Andy Pafko both had hits for the Braves.
Gary Nolan is next up for the Reds and they face the Braves in the middle contest of a three-game set at County Stadium. Lew Burdette gets the ball for Milwaukee.
