Ken Griffey was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1975 World Series as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Boston Red Sox in five games.
Griffey finished three votes ahead of Johnny Bench in the balloting for the honor.
The Reds outfielder won the first game with a three-run homer in the ninth inning as the Reds beat Boston 6-3 at Fenway Park.
He also added a two-run homer in first inning of third contest as the Reds went on to a 9-2 victory. In the fifth contest, he doubled and scored.
Overall, he scored five runs with three doubles and six RBI.
Bench MVP for Season
Bench was equally qualified for the World Series award as he batted .333 with seven hits and seven RBI. He added four doubles and scored twice.
However, the Reds catcher was selected as Cincinnati’s MVP for the entire season after hitting 33 homers and knocking a team-high 148 runs.
Bench was second on the squad in homers just one behind George Foster, who finished with 34 long balls with 132 RBI.
In nine post-season contests, Bench hit .289 with a homer and 10 RBI. He had five doubles and scored four runs.
