A late rally by Baltimore gave the Orioles a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets in the second round of the 1977 Tournament at Memorial Stadium.

The Orioles will now visit the New York Yankees for the finale of the Reggie Jackson Bracket.

After Al Bumbry had tied the contest at 3-3 with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, Eddie Murray‘s two-run double gave the Orioles the lead for good.

Orioles starter Jim Palmer earned the victory, but needed some help from Tippy Martinez. Martinez got the final two outs of the eighth, but surrendered back-to-back singles in the ninth to Lenny Randle and Felix Millan.

Unfortunately for the Mets, Randle was thrown out at third by Baltimore right fielder Ken Singleton. Martinez got Steve Henderson on a fly ball to pick up the save.

Early Lead for New York

The Mets led twice in the affair as they scored all three runs off Palmer.

A two-run homer in the first by Henderson put the Mets on top 2-0.

Baltimore was able to answer in the fourth inning off Mets starter Jerry Koosman.

Singleton hit a solo homer and the Orioles added an unearned run on a miscue by Mets shortstop Bud Harrelson.

In the top of the fifth, the Mets took the lead after Randle singled, stole second and then scored on a double by Millan.

Palmer was able to hold off the Mets until the eighth to allow his teammates to come back.
