Boston will get a chance to play for the title of the 1977 Tournament after the Red Sox defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-2 at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox will square off against the winner of the (7) Pittsburgh Pirates at (3) New York Yankees affair at the highest remaining seed.
Both teams scored in the third inning as each had solo homer.
Chet Lemon put the White Sox on top with a blast off Boston starter Reggie Cleveland.
Denny Doyle took Chicago starter Francisco Barrios deep in the bottom of the frame to tie the contest at 1-1.
George Scott put the Red Sox up for good with a two-run shot over the Green Monster in the fourth.
In the fifth, Carl Yastrzemski had a sacrifice fly and Boston led 4-1.
Cleveland worked on the mound until the eighth when he gave up another run to the White Sox on a RBI single from Ralph Garr.
Bill Campbell came on to earn a save as he got the last four outs. Cleveland gave up four hits to get the win.
Jim Rice finished the scoring for the Red Sox as he drilled a two-run homer off White Sox reliever Lerrin LaGrow.
