Editor’s note: The 1980 Tournament games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for any games involving American League teams. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.
Baltimore is headed to New York for the finale of the of the 1980 American League Tournament.
The Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1 behind starting pitcher Scott McGregor in the semifinal contest at Memorial Stadium.
McGregor (1-0) went the distance allowing six hits in the only run on a sacrifice fly by Lamar Johnson in the top of the eighth inning when the White Sox loaded the bases against the Baltimore lefty.
Richard Dotson (0-1) also tossed a complete game for Chicago giving up nine hits, but he surrendered a pair of homers that hurt his cause.
Doug DeCinces hit a two-run homer in the fourth to breakup the scoreless affair. Eddie Murray led off the frame and DeCinces followed with his blast to make it 2-0.
In the sixth, Ken Singleton had a solo shot to produce the final tally of the contest.
