1994 Post-Season: Indians at White Sox G1

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

The Chicago White Sox sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth inning on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the opener of the American League Championship Series.

Jack McDowell (0-1) is set to start game two of the series for the White Sox in Comiskey Park as the Indians send Dennis Martinez (1-0) to the mound.

Frank Thomas got things underway in the bottom of the fourth as he led off with a solo homer off Indians starter Mark Clark, who struggled after retiring Juilo Franco and Robin Ventura.

Ozzie Guillen‘s two-run single with the bases loaded added to the margin. After Tim Raines had an infield single that jammed the bases again, Clark walked Joey Cora and it was 4-0.

Jose Mesa was able to get the final out and then he went on to pitch through the seventh.

Cleveland scored its only run off White Sox pitcher Wilson Alvarez in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by Paul Sorrento.

Chicago added its final tally in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Mike LaValliere.

Alvarez (2-0) went the distance for Chicago allowing five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Clark (1-1) was tagged with the loss as he gave up four runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout.
