1994 Post-Season: White Sox at Rangers G1

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

Kenny Rogers made sure the Texas Rangers would be the only home team to win its opener of the American League Division Series.

Behind the six-hitter from Rogers, the Rangers defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-1.

Rogers (1-0) walked three and fanned two as the White Sox scored their only run in the fifth on a RBI single by Tim Raines.

Texas grabbed an early advantage as Rusty Greer tagged Chicago starter Jack McDowell with a solo homer in the bottom of the second.

The Rangers added a run in the third as David Hulse led off with a single and swiped second before scoing on a single by Jose Canseco.

Will Clark‘s single in the fifth provided the final two runs for the Rangers.

McDowell (0-1) worked eight innings for the White Sox giving up eight hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Game two of the best-of-five series in Arlington features Kevin Brown (0-0) as the starter for the Rangers as the White Sox will have Alex Fernandez (0-0) on the mound.
