1994 Post-Season: Yankees at Indians G2

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

Thanks to Jim Abbott the New York Yankees will get a chance to sweep the Cleveland Indians in the best-of-five American League Division Series.

New York posted a 4-2 win in the second contest of the series to take a 2-0 lead as the Yankees head home for game three.

Melido Perez gets the start for the Yankees as Mark Clark takes the ball for the Indians.

Abbott (1-0) went the distance for the Yankees as he allowed four hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The only real blemish for Abbott came in the bottom of the seventh after the Yankees built a 4-0 advantage.

With Eddie Murray and Manny Ramirez on base, Jim Thome sliced a ball to left where Luis Polonia misplayed the ball into a double as both runners scored to cut New York’s lead n half.

However, Abbott responded by retiring the next seven batters to end the contest.

Cleveland starter Charles Nagy (0-1) worked 7⅔ innings allowing all four runs on nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

The walks were an issue for Nagy as three of the walks led to runs resulting from a sacrifice fly.

Bernie Williams had one in the fourth and Pat Kelly added another in the sixth.

In the seventh, Danny Tartabull had a deep fly that put the Yankees up 3-0. The final tally came on a RBI single from Mike Stanley.

Eric Plunk, Derek Lilliquist and Jeff Russell finished up on the mound for the Indians to keep the game close.
