One powerful swing and pitching made the difference as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-1 in the opening round of the 2006 Tournament.

With the win, the Angels are set to visit the Minnesota Twins in the second round.

The Indians scored the first run of the contest in the third on a RBI double by Victor Martinez. The tally was unearned against Angels starter Jared Weaver thanks to an earlier error by Orlando Cabrera.

Vladimir Guerrero‘s two-run homer in the fourth against Cleveland starter Jake Westbrook gave the Angels the lead for good at 2-1.

Weaver would go the distance for the Angels allowing five hits with nine strikeouts.

In his eight frames, Westbrook surrendered seven hits and fanned two.

Westbrook gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Garret Anderson knocked in the first score with a double before he crossed the plate on back-to-back errors by Cleveland’s Aaron Boone and Jhonny Peralta.
