The New York Yankees sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth inning on the way to an 11-1 victory over the Texas Rangers in the second round of the 2006 Tournament.
New York advances to entertain the winner of the Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers affair in the semifinals of the American League portion of the event.
Leading 2-1 heading into the fourth at Yankee Stadium, New York hammered Texas starter Kevin Millwood, C.J. Wilson and Ron Mahay for eight runs
Derek Jeter‘s grand slam ended the contest for Millwood. Wilson came on and walked three straight hitters before Mahay issued a base on balls when he went to the mound.
With the score now 7-1, Jorge Posada added a two-run double and Robinson Cano drove in the final tally on a ground out.
Johnny Damon‘s solo homer in the eighth provided the Yankees with their last run.
The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the top of the first as Gary Matthews, Jr. led off with a solo shot against New York starter Mike Mussina.
Jason Giambi tagged Millwood in the third with a two-run homer to set the stage for New York’s huge frame.
Mussina went the distance for New York allowing just five hits with six strikeouts.
