Editor’s note: The 27 * 61 Yankees Replay games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will not be used for any games. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur.

It takes at least 27 outs to win most baseball games.

The 1924 Washington Senators used all but one before Goose Goslin gave his team a 1-0 victory over the 1927 New York Yankees.

New York starter Wilcy Moore didn’t allow a hit by Washington through eight innings, but in the final frame the Senators picked up three along with the only run in the finale of the four-game series to earn a split.

John Martina, who was Moore’s counterpart on the mound for the Senators, broke up the no-hitter with a double to begin the ninth.

After Earl McNeely and player-manger Bucky Harris were retired, Sam Rice singled and Martina moved to third to set the stage for Goslin.

Goslin’s walk-off single brought home Martina to get the celebration underway.

Moore (14-5) walked two and fanned five in his effort that ended in a loss.

Martina scattered seven hits and walked four with five strikeouts as the Yankees stranded 11 base runners. He whiffed Babe Ruth four times.

Next up for the Yankees is the 2005 Chicago White Sox. George Pipgras (9-7) will start the opener of the four-game set in Comiskey Park, while Orlando Hernandez gets the ball for Chicago.
