Herb Pennock might have been the happiest guy in the dugout for the 1927 New York Yankees.

After a 1-5 stretch in his last seven starts, Pennock (7-10) picked up a win as the Yankees continued to hammer the 2005 Chicago White Sox with a 9-2 decision in Comiskey Park.

Through three contests in the four-game series New York has out scored Chicago 36-3 heading into the finale as Urban Shocker (12-4) gets the start for the Yankees against Jon Garland.

Pennock went the distance surrendering five hits with three strikeouts.

Quick Start

Chicago starter Freddy Garcia retired Earle Combs and Mark Koenig to get things underway, but Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig hit back-to-back homers to give the Yankees a 2-0 advantage.

In the third, New York added another tally as Ruth reached second on an error by Chicago shortstop Juan Uribe and Gehrig singled.

Tony Lazzeri grounded into a double play as Ruth rumbled home to make it 3-0.

Pennock had some control issues in the third as he walked three with the last one to Paul Konerko producing a run.

Ruth drilled his second homer of the affair after Koenig singled in the fifth. It was Ruth’s 44th blast of the season that raised his RBI total to 103.

The Yankees ousted Garcia in the seventh with four runs as he left giving up 10 hits with four strikeouts.

With two outs, Garcia walked Koenig and Ruth before Gehrig doubled to give the Yankees a 6-1 lead. Lazzeri’s three-run bomb ended the day for Garcia. Cliff Politte got Bob Meusel to hit a fly ball to end the inning.

The White Sox added their final tally in the bottom of the seventh on doubles by Aaron Rowand and A.J. Pierzynski.

Gehrig’s homer was his 30th of the season, while Lazzeri now has 19 round-trippers.
