The 1927 New York Yankees completed a dominating four-game series sweep of the 2005 Chicago White Sox with a 7-2 victory.

Over the series, the Yankees pounded out 54 hits and out scored the White Sox 43-5.

It didn’t take long for New York to set the tone for the affair with three runs in the first inning against Chicago starter Jon Garland.

Earle Combs smacked a solo shot and eighth of the season to get things underway. After Mark Koenig singled, Babe Ruth drilled his 45th homer of the year to give the Yankees a 3-0 advantage.

When the Yankees added three more runs in the third, Garland was finished.

Koenig led off with a homer, which was his fourth of the season. Ruth and Lou Gehrig followed with singles.

White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe misplayed a grounder by Tony Lazzeri. Ruth scored with Gehrig stopping at third and Lazzeri ending up at second.

Bob Meusel capped the frame with a sacrifice fly that brought home Gehrig to make it 6-0.

The White Sox finally got to New York starter Urban Shocker in the bottom of the fourth as Joe Crede knocked in a run with a single.

Luis Vizcaino blanked the Yankees in the fourth, but he surrendered New York’s final run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Joe Dugan.

Paul Konerko hit a homer in the sixth for Chicago’s last score.

Shocker (13-4) went the distance for the Yankees allowing seven hits with three strikeouts.

Neal Cotts and Bobby Jenks both tossed two scoreless frames to finish the mound work for the White Sox.

Next up for the Yankees is a visit to the 1948 Cleveland Indians. Wilcy Moore (14-5) gets the start for New York, while the Indians counter with Satchel Paige.
