Mickey Mantle took care of a Tim Wakefield knuckle ball as the 1961 New York Yankees beat the 2004 Boston Red Sox 1-0.

Mantle’s 55th homer of the season in the top of the eighth inning also gave the Yankees a 2-1 advantage in the five-game series at Fenway Park. Mantle now has 128 RBI.

Ralph Terry (8-11), who has been on the wrong side a few times in similar games this season, earned the win for the Yankees. He gave up five hits and fanned four.

Luis Arroyo took over for Terry in the ninth as he picked up his 15th save of the season retiring David Ortiz, Jason Varitek and Kevin Youkilis.

Wakefield went eight innings for Boston surrendering six hits with seven strikeouts. Keith Foulke tossed a perfect ninth to keep Boston in the hunt for a win.

In the fourth contest of the series, New York sends Rollie Sheldon (9-8) to the mound. Boston is slated to start Derek Lowe.
