Mike Cuellar tossed a complete game as the 1970 Baltimore Orioles beat the 1961 New York Yankees 5-1.

Cuellar and New York starter Bill Stafford were hooked up in a tight contest through five innings before the Orioles put together a rally in the top of the sixth.

Frank Robinson walked to begin the frame as Boog Powell and Merv Rettenmund both singled to load the bases.

After Stafford retired Brooks Robinson, he issued a free pass to Dave Johnson that put Baltimore in front 2-1.

A little frustrated by walking in a run, Stafford made a mistake pitch to Elrod Hendricks as he drilled a two-run homer adding to Baltimore’s advantage.

Stafford (15-7) would leave after seven innings giving up eight hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts.

Jim Coates took over for the Yankees and he allowed a solo homer to Hendricks for Baltimore’s final run in the ninth.

The Orioles opened the scoring in the fourth with three straight singles by Powell and Rettenmund with Brooks Robinson knocking in the run.

New York picked up its run in the fifth.

Yogi Berra and Bill Skowron both singled before Clete Boyer popped out. Stafford was able to sneak a hit past Powell at first base to drive in run that tied the contest at 1-1.

Ralph Terry (8-11) gets the start for New York as the two teams meet in the finale of the four-game series. Dave McNally is slated to be on the mound for Baltimore.
