Babe Ruth smacked a pair of homers to lead the 1927 New York Yankees to a 5-0 victory over the 1970 Baltimore Orioles.

With the win, the Yankees finish with a 13-9 edge in the season series with the Orioles as the teams split the final four-game set.

Urban Shocker (17-4) went the distance for the Yankees as he gave up seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Ruth’s solo shot in the first inning got the scoring underway against Baltimore starter Dave McNally.

It was Bob Meusel‘s turn in the second as he drilled his 14th long ball of the season to put the Yankees on top 2-0.

In the fifth, a RBI double by Earle Combs extended New York’s lead by a run.

Pete Richert replaced McNally in the eighth as the Yankees picked up two more runs. McNally allowed nine hits with two strikeouts.

After a single by Mark Koenig, Ruth hammered a two-run blast for his 52nd homer of the season.

Next up for New York is a four-game series in Yankee Stadium against the 1948 Cleveland Indians.

Wilcy Moore (15-8) is scheduled to start the opener for the Yankees, while the Indians counter with Satchel Paige.
