New York took an early lead on a RBI single by Lou Gehrig in the first inning off Cleveland starter Satchel Paige.
The Indians were able to put together a response by the top of the fourth against Moore.
Cleveland player-manager Lou Boudreau singled before Larry Doby singled with two outs.
Ken Keltner blasted a double that had Doby scoring from first as the Indians grabbed a 2-1 advantage.
However, Collins answered the call in the bottom of the fourth with a run-scoring single to make it 2-2.
In the sixth, a walk to Tony Lazzeri, a single by Bob Meusel and Joe Dugan reaching on an error loaded the bases.
Collins came through again knocking in two more runs with a single as the Yankees led 4-2.
Things went bad for the Indians in the seventh as Paige was sent to the showers.
With two outs, Gehrig doubled and Lazzeri walked before Meusel’s fly ball to right became an error that produced a run.
