The 1948 Cleveland Indians broke open a tight affair with 10 runs in the fifth inning against the 1927 New York Yankees on the way to a 13-6 victory.
New York starter Waite Hoyt fanned Larry Doby to begin the fifth, but that would be the final out of the day for the Yankees ace.

Ken Keltner and Eddie Robinson both singled before Jim Hegan, starting pitcher Bob Lemon and Dale Mitchell added three straight RBI singles to make it 4-1.
After Thurman Tucker walked, Cleveland player-manager Lou Boudreau doubled home two runs as Hoyt (18-7) left after giving up eight runs on eight hits with a strikeout..
Myles Thomas was called from the New York bullpen and he walked Joe Gordon before Doby redeemed himself for his first at bat in the inning with a two-run double.
Two more runs scored on New York errors before a bases loaded walk to Mitchell produced the 10th run.
The Indians kept going in the sixth with a RBI single by Gordon and a sacrifice fly by Robinson that made it 13-1.
Babe Ruth hit his 54th homer of the season to lead off the sixth, while Bob Meusel and pinch-hitter Ben Paschal added RBI singles.
New York’s final runs came in the seventh as Meusel knocked in a pair with a single.
Lemon went the distance for the Indians allowing 10 hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Cleveland got on the scoreboard in the third inning thanks to a solo homer by Robinson, while the Yankees tied it in the fourth on RBI double by Meusel that set the stage for the offensive explosion by the Indians.
