A two-run double by Goose Goslin gave the 1924 Washington Senators the lead for good on the way to a 6-0 victory over the 1961 New York Yankees.
Goslin’s hit came in the third off New York starter Ralph Terry, who would allow three more runs in the fourth.
Muddy Ruel had a run-scoring double to get the scoring underway in the fourth.
Senators starting pitcher Tom Zachary brought home a run on a ground out, while Earl McNeely added a RBI single to make it 5-0.
Washington’s final tally was in the eighth when McNeely singled off Jim Coates to drive in the run.
Terry (11-12) went seven frames giving up five runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Zachary went the distance for the Senators surrendering eight hits with three walks, while fanning three.
In the season finale, Whitey Ford (17-8) starts for the Yankees with Walter Johnson scheduled to take the mound for Washington.
