For the second straight season in 2005, a suffering fan base was satisfied as the Chicago White Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1917.

The White Sox championship followed the title by the Boston Red Sox in 2004.

Chicago won the American League Central with a 99-63 record under manager Ozzie Guillen with a revamped lineup that featured a lot of new players acquired in the off season.

In the post-season, the White Sox were 11-1 in three series. Chicago swept the Red Sox in the Division Series before beating the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the Championship Series four games to one.

The White Sox used their brooms again to sweep the Houston Astros to take the World Series.

Paul Konerko led the White Sox offense with 40 homers and 100 RBI.
