Juan Uribe spoiled the streaks.

Uribe’s walk-off sacrifice fly in the 13th inning provided the 2005 Chicago White Sox with a 3-2 victory to break the nine-game winning streak of the 1927 New York Yankees. The team’s 12-game winning string on the road was also snapped.

New York’s Myles Thomas was beginning his second inning of work as he gave up three straight one-out singles to A.J. Pierzynski, Aaron Rowand and Joe Crede.

The game-winning fly ball by Uribe landed in the glove of Mickey Mantle, but the New York centerfielder’s throw couldn’t beat Pierzynski to the plate and the celebration began at U.S. Cellular Field.

Thomas is now 2-2 on the season as he followed starter Herb Pennock and Dutch Ruether to the mound.

Pennock went nine frames giving up a run on seven hits with four strikeouts. Ruether allowed a run in his two innings.

After giving up a run on five hits, White Sox starter Freddy Garcia left the game with two outs in the eighth with runners at second and third.

Bobby Jenks came out the Chicago bullpen to retire Bob Meusel on a pop up to end the threat.

The score remained the same until the 11th inning with both teams had solo homers.

Meusel hit one for the Yankees and Pierzynski tied it in the bottom of the inning to set the stage for Uribe.

Now 12-1 on the road, the Yankees continue their travels with a visit to the 1970 Baltimore Orioles for a four-game series.

Urban Shocker will start the opener in Memorial Stadium, while the Orioles will counter with Dave McNally.
