Cleveland’s Ken Keltner hit a solo homer off New York starter Herb Pennock the cut the deficit in half for the Indians.

Gehrig had an answer for New York in the third with his 11th homer of the season, which gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

Feller was forced to leave the contest with an injury during the third frame and Cleveland player-manager Lou Boudreau selected Bob Muncrief to take the mound.

The Indians picked up a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Boudreau to make it 3-2.

Pennock (1-3) would surrender his lead in the bottom of the seventh as Keltner’s second long ball of the affair tied it at 3-3.

Later in the inning, Cleveland pinch-hitter Thurman Tucker put the Indians on top with a RBI double.

Allie Clark added a two-run single against Dutch Ruether that made it 6-3. Pennock would be charged with all of the Cleveland runs in the contest as he gave up just six hits with two strikeouts.

Muncrief worked four innings to get the win for the Indians as he blanked the Yankees on three hits with two strikeouts.

Russ Christopher earned a save for Cleveland as he pitched the last two innings, however, he got touched up in the ninth as Bob Meusel‘s two-run triple got the Yankees closer in the ninth. Christopher retired pinch-hitter Pat Collins and Joe Dugan to finish the contest.
