Bill Stafford tossed his second shutout of the season as the Yankees blanked the 1924 Washington Senators 4-0 to sweep the four-game series. New York outscored Washington 25-8 during the series as the Yankees raised their home record to 10-3.
Stafford (6-2) allowed five hits with seven strikeouts as he remain the top winner for the Yankees this season.
The Yankees grabbed an early advantage in the second inning against Washington starter George Mogridge as Bill Skowron had a RBI single.
Yogi Berra put the Yankees up 3-0 with a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Tony Kubek had three hits to lead the Yankees as his final one came in the eighth against Allen Russell when he drove in a run with a single.
Mogridge worked seven innings giving up nine hits with four walks and a strikeout.
The Yankees entertain the 2004 Boston Red Sox for a game before heading to California for a five-game set with the 1972 Oakland A’s.
Ralph Terry (3-2) starts for New York, while Tim Wakefield gets the ball for the Red Sox.
