Urban Shocker kept his winning streak alive as the 1927 New York Yankees survived a 2-1 battle to beat the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

A tired Shocker (7-0) left the mound in the ninth with the bases load and two outs before Myles Thomas retired the final batter to earn his second save of the season.

The Yankees led by a run heading into the top of the ninth and Shocker quickly got two outs. However, Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko had back-to-back singles, which seemed to concern New York manager Miller Huggins.

After Shocker walked Carl Everett to lead the bases, Huggins made the decision to bring in Thomas from the bullpen.

As the tension built, A.J. Pierzynski hit a routine fly ball to Babe Ruth in right field and the game came to an anticlimactic end.

Lou Gehrig figured in both runs for the Yankees. He hit his 18th homer of the season in the second inning off White Sox starter Jose Contreras. The New York first baseman is now tied with Ruth for the team lead in long balls.

Tadahito Iguchi had a RBI single in the fourth for Chicago to tie the affair at 1-1.

Gehrig began the seventh frame with a triple that was followed by a sacrifice fly by Tony Lazzeri, which turned out to be the game-winning run.

Another undefeated New York starter Wilcy Moore (8-0) gets the ball as the Yankees are slated to entertain the 1948 Cleveland Indians in a three-game series. The Indians have Sam Zoldak scheduled to start the opener.
