Goose Goslin knocked in six runs to lead the 1924 Washington Senators to an 8-3 victory over the 1927 New York Yankees.
Although he had three hits, Goslin drove in his initial run in the third as he grounded out to second, which made it 2-0.
In the fifth, he blasted a three-run homer that gave the Senators a 5-0 advantage. Two innings later, Goslin added a two-run double to the cause.
Ossie Bluege picked up a RBI single later in the frame and the Senators led 8-1.
The Yankees got the on the scoreboard in the sixth as Washington starter John Martina walked Johnny Grabowski with the bases loaded.
New York’s final runs were in the eighth as pinch-hitter Pat Collins hit into a fielder’s choice with the bases full. The last tally was on a error by Bluege on a grounder by Mark Koenig.
Washington’s first score came in the second when Martina slapped an infield single.
Player manager Bucky Harris led the Senators with four hits and three runs scored, while Sam Rice also added three hits to the attack.
New York is set to start George Pipgras (5-5) in the second affair of the three-game series, while the Senators send Curly Ogden to the mound.
