Larry Doby hit a pair of homers to lead the 1948 Cleveland Indians to a 4-1 victory over the 1961 New York Yankees.

Doby blasted a solo shot off New York starter Ralph Terry in the second and followed with a three-run bomb in the fourth.

The Yankees picked up their run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Yogi Berra.

New York had nine hits in the contest, while the Indians managed just six. Cleveland the most of their hits as the Yankees failed to come through in the clutch stranding eight runners with five in scoring position.

Gene Bearden went the distance for the Indians as he walked one and fanned four.

Terry (5-6) didn’t walk a batter and had just one strikeout in his complete game effort.

The Yankees remain on the road with a visit to the 1970 Baltimore Orioles for a four-game series.

Rollie Sheldon (3-7) gets the ball in the opener for New York as Baltimore is scheduled to start Jim Hardin.
