Waite Hoyt got back on the winning track as the 1927 New York Yankees posted a 3-1 victory over the 1970 Baltimore Orioles.

Hoyt (11-4) bounced back after having his seven-game winning streak snapped in his last outing against the 1948 Cleveland Indians.

The New York ace went the distance for his 11th complete game this season as he allowed seven hits and finished with four strikeouts.

Lou Gehrig got the Yankees on the scoreboard in the first inning with a triple off Orioles starter Jim Palmer.

Baltimore tied the affair at 1-1 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Mark Belanger.

In the fifth, it was time for Babe Ruth to make his mark on the contest.

After Mark Koenig singled with one out, Ruth smacked a two-run homer to give the Yankess the lead for good. It was Ruth’s team-high 34th long ball of the season as he raised his RBI total to 72.

Palmer would also finish with a complete game surrendering eight hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Herb Pennock (5-7) gets the start in the finale of the four-game series for the Yankees as the Orioles send Mike Cuellar to the mound.
