Pablo Ozuna capped a rally with a walk-off single to give the 2005 Chicago White Sox a 5-4 victory over the 1927 New York Yankees.

Down 4-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, the White Sox went to work on New York starter Wilcy Moore, who had allowed just four hits through eight.

With one out, A.J. Pierzynski began the outburst with a double before Aaron Rowand blasted a two-run homer to give the White Sox hope by cutting the deficit to one.

The action was happening so fast that New York manager Miller Huggins couldn’t get Dutch Ruether ready fast enough to slow down the White Sox as Joe Crede singled and Juan Uribe doubled.

Ruether likely wasn’t quite ready when he was brought in to face Ozuna, who was pinch-hitting for Chicago reliever Neal Cotts. Ozuna’s hit scored both runs and the White Sox celebrated the victory.

Cotts worked the final two innings for the White Sox to earn the win although he allowed two hits and a run with three strikeouts.

Moore (11-4) surrendered all five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Moore was dominant early as he didn’t allow a hit until Crede’s one-out single in the fifth.

Chicago starter Jose Contreras worked seven innings giving up three runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.

New York took a 1-0 lead in the second on three straight singles by Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri and Bob Meusel.

The Yankees added two more runs in the fourth on a RBI double by Joe Dugan and a sacrifice fly by Pat Collins.

Uribe got the White Sox on a scoreboard in the seventh with a RBI single before the Yankees responded in the eighth when Dugan brought home a run with a single to set the stage for the ninth.

The third contest of the four-game series features George Pipgras (6-6) on the mound for the Yankees with Orlando Hernandez getting the start for the White Sox.
