The 1927 New York Yankees stranded 10 base runners and hit into three double plays, but no one seemed to care as they posted a 16-2 victory over the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

New York had 13 hits, but had some help from the White Sox as well with 13 walks and three errors.

With one out in the top of the first, the Yankees sent Chicago starter Mark Buehrle to the showers after facing seven batters.

Ben Paschal walked and then Babe Ruth reached on an error before Lou Gehrig doubled home the first run. Tony Lazzeri followed with two-run single and it was 3-0.

After Mark Koenig doubled, Joe Dugan smashed his seventh homer of the season> It was 6-0 and Buehrle was done.

Brandon McCarthy was called from the bullpen and promptly walked Pat Collins. New York starting pitcher Waite Hoyt reached on an error. Earle Combs singled and the Yankees had seven runs.

The White Sox answered in the bottom of the frame with a run as Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko and Carl Everett each singled.

Unfortunately for the White Sox, New York’s offense was in high gear as the Yankees added four runs in the second inning.

Lazzeri had a RBI double and Koenig added a run-scoring single to make it 9-1.

At that point, Damaso Marte went to the mound for the White Sox and he walked Collins with the bases loaded. Marte got Hoyt to hit into a double play that allowed another run to score and it was 11-1.

In the third inning, Marte walked Ruth and then Gehrig drilled a two-run homer that gave the Yankees a 13-1 advantage.

The remaining runs in the contest came via the home run. Dye hit a solo shot for the White Sox in the sixth, while Gehrig blasted a three-run bomb in the ninth off Neal Cotts.

With his two homers and six runs knocked in, Gehrig now has 27 long balls on the season with 80 RBI.

Hoyt (12-4) went the distance for the Yankees giving up six hits with four strikeouts.

The Yankees are set to return home after playing the last 18 contests on the road in four cities.

Herb Pennock (5-8) gets the start in the opener of a four-game series against the 1970 Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore manager Earl Weaver counters with Mike Cuellar.
