LIBERTY, Ind. – Long-time Union County assistant coach Jesse Moses was selected this week to succeed his mentor at the helm of the Patriots boys basketball program.
Moses is replacing Mark Detweiler, who is now the head coach at Delta.
“Coach Detweiler is a mentor and a great friend,” Moses said. “I loved working on his staff.”
“He’s taught me so much about the process and what it takes to be a good leader,” Moses added. “We’ve always talked ‘Next Man Up’ with our players and the idea of preparedness. Preparedness and work ethic is what you can control.”
Moses has been with the Patriots for eight years.
“Now, I get the opportunity to coach at a school that is supported by a passionate, loyal community,” Moses said. “We are crazy about our basketball here. I also get the chance to lead a group of players I genuinely care about. We are a hometown program. I’ve known our seniors since they were eight or nine years old. I’ve watched them grow as basketball players and into great young men with big dreams.”
The Patriots finished 13-13 a year ago as they reached the championship contest of the Class 2A sectional at Hagerstown.
“I will be surrounded by a intelligent, hardworking staff in Roger Bowling, Ryan Brattain, and Alex McCool,” Moses said. “There are expectations. There is a standard of excellence that is demanded.”
“You want to coach at a place like this because of the expectations,” Moses continued. “I’m excited about our future.”
The Patriots open the season at Connersville on Nov. 22.
