Baseball: Lincoln Season Preview

LincolnCAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Lincoln Head Coach Tom Gable is hoping with another year of experience, his team can improve upon last season.

“I think we should be very competitive this year,” Gable said. “We have four seniors this year that have played varsity baseball for four years.”

Lincoln was 11-11 last season and 2-4 in the Tri-Eastern Conference.

“We should be in the running for the conference crown and be one of the favorites for the sectional title since we are now in 1A,” Gable said. “I think the conference will be very competitive this year. I think there are three or four teams that could win the title.”

The Lincoln seniors are Lucian Cornett, Jacob Kissick, Kyler Baker, Justin Black, Brandon Mettler and David Knazevas.

Cornett was All-TEC last spring, while Kissick was honorable mention.

The juniors are Nick Cupp, Owen Rhea, Holden Russell and newcomer Brandon Stephens. Caleb Craig, Hunter Wilhite and Seth Morris are the sophomores, while freshman Blaine Cowan, Logan Asher and Luke Isaacs are expected to provide a boost to the program.

Lincoln is slated to begin the season with a trip to Oldenburg on Saturday, April 2. The Golden Eagles start their TEC schedule at Hagerstown on Monday, April 11.

With the move to Class 1A, Lincoln is now grouped in the sectional against conference opponents Hagerstown, Tri, Union City along with Seton, Blue River and Randolph Southern.
