FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – Northeastern Head Baseball Coach Steve Bray may have lost three All-Tri-Eastern Conference players to graduation, but he feels the current crop of Knights will be ready as the 2016 season begins.
“What makes this group special is the level of play they expect themselves to compete at and the desire they each have to get better every day,” Bray said.
Two All-TEC Honorable Mention selections are back. Senior Garrett Dill batted .407 and was second on the squad last year with three homers and 24 RBI. He was also 2-0 on the mound with a 2.91 ERA. Junior Tyler Dale had a .384 batting average in 2015.
The other seniors are the roster are Tanner Angel, Austin Kenworthy, Zach Lester and Bailey Stewart.
According to Bray, junior Mason Fisher will see most of the innings on the mound after having a good year in 2015 as he went 3-3 on the mound with a 3.37 ERA.
Kaleb Mikesell joins Fisher and Dale as juniors on the roster.
Dylan Baker, Logan Lawhorn, Jon Miller, Connor Bray and Cole Retter are sophomores with Tanner Wilson being the lone freshman.
The Knights were scheduled to begin the season at Oxford Talawanda Saturday, April 9. With the postponement, the Knights will now start at Muncie Burris on Monday, April 11.
Northeastern’s TEC opener is at home against Union County on Thursday, April 14.
“I believe it will be very competitive again this year,” Bray said. “I believe we will be in a really good position to compete for the conference title with all the experience we have returning from last season.”
“Our expectations will never change,” Bray continued. “We feel that we should always be competing for that top spot.”
