LEWISVILLE, Ind. – Tri Head Baseball Coach Carey Ellis is looking for his program to continue to progress as the Titans prepare for the 2016 season.
“We are very excited with our returning group of players,” Ellis said. “We have several players returning, but we will still be very young.”
The Titans were 6-18 overall a year ago with a 1-6 mark in the Tri-Eastern Conference.
“We look to improve on our record from last year,” Ellis said. “Hopefully, another year of maturity will benefit some of our younger players. We want to compete and limit our controllable mistakes, errors and walks.”
Senior Kaleb Harrison and sophomore Drew Mondrush return after being honored by the conference in 2015.
An All-TEC selection, Harrison batted .333 with 10 stolen bases, while Mondrush hit .385 and earned All-TEC Honorable Mention.
Harrison and classmate Bryce Longnecker are three-year starters. Robert Wyant and Brent Schuyler are the other seniors for the Titans.
Eric Bilby and Chris Blake are juniors expected to contribute.
Mondrush, Josiah Jackson, Mason Rottinghaus, and Masen Phelps are sophomores.
“We feel like the sophomore class is very strong,” Ellis said.
The freshman on the roster are Gage Rowe, Kyler Burchett, Logan Stephens, Jimmy Jeffries, and Cedderek Riggs.
The Titans open the season at Morristown on Thursday, April 7. They entertain Centerville in their first TEC contest of the season on Tuesday, April 12.
“We will just try to compete and if we limit our mistakes with some timely hitting, then we believe we have a chance against anybody,” Ellis said.
