LIBERTY, Ind. – The Union County baseball team begins the 2016 season at home against Connersville on Monday, April 4.
“We always have high expectations at Union County,” Patriots Head Coach Jeff Mathews said.
The Patriots are coming off a 17-13 season last spring with a 5-2 mark in the Tri-Eastern Conference.
“I believe will be competitive in both the TEC and sectional races,” Mathews said.
There are three Patriots returning who were honored by the conference last season.
Caleb Greene and Mason Miller were All-TEC, while Scott Mosley was on the honorable mention list.
In addition to the versatile Mosley, Jameson Walters, Justin Philpot and Jarrod Havens are the seniors on the roster.
Greene is the lone junior on the squad.
Miller and classmates Preston Scott, Cameron Donovan, Leighton Schulte, Mason Miller and Joey Weller are sophomores that performed at a high level last year, according the Mathews.
The freshmen with the Patriots are Mook Shepler, Justin Witter, Blake Fields and Nate Webb.
Union County starts its TEC schedule at Winchester on Saturday, April 9.
“The TEC is a good baseball conference,” Mathews said. “I expect several surprises this year with Hagerstown being the favorite.”
